Wise deactivated your account — getting your balance back
6 min read · Not legal advice
Wise (Wise Payments Limited, authorised by the UK FCA under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011, firm reference 900507) can suspend or deactivate accounts while conducting required checks. Community reports put typical resolution between two weeks and several months, driven almost entirely by how quickly complete documents are supplied.
What Wise needs, generally
Source-of-funds documents: bank statements matching the inflows, invoices or contracts explaining what the money is for, and ID/address documents for the account profile. Incomplete submissions are the most common reason reviews stall — supply the whole package at once, not piecemeal.
The formal complaint route
Wise operates a formal complaints process. If support can't resolve your case, file a complaint and ask for a written final response — that response starts the clock for the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), the free UK dispute service for financial businesses. FOS referrals must generally be made within six months of the company's final response. For US-side money transmission complaints, the CFPB portal accepts complaints about money transfer services.
